Eating Your Way to Clear Skin: Healthy Eating Tips for Acne Care
Breaking out is never fun, especially when the breakouts linger for days or weeks. Unfortunately, many of us don’t realize the significance of our diets when it comes to our skin condition. The food we put into our bodies can greatly affect how our complexion looks and feels.
If you’re experiencing an excessive breakout, there are some steps you can take to incorporate healthy options into your diet that could help cure the problem from the inside out. Firstly, stock up on food with natural anti-inflammatory properties.
Inflammatory foods include the following:
- Red meat and processed meats
- Refined grains (white rice, white bread, pasta, and cereal)
- Fried foods
- Sugar
- Soda and other sweet drinks
Foods such as sweet potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, chips, and other dark green vegetables contain specific properties which can help reduce inflammation from the inside out. Secondly, focus on foods that contain high levels of polyphenols, or antioxidants.
The antioxidants help combat any toxins or bacteria that might be causing you to breakout.
Foods high in polyphenols include,
olive oils, broccoli, onions, cabbage, apples, and artichokes.
To promote healthy skin, be sure to include some healthy fats in your diet.
Healthy fats contain plenty of nutrients and help your body better absorb other vitamins. Coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado can help moisturize while providing you with vitamins A, B, and E .
As with other dietary changes, not all these foods are a one-size-fits-all solution. You may benefit more from different ones than others, so don’t be afraid to experiment. After all, the key is finding what works best for you. In the long-run, eating a balanced diet full of natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich foods, coupled with living a healthy lifestyle, can help keep breakouts at bay.
If you’re having trouble figuring out what works best for you, speak to your doctor or a registered dietitian to find a nutritional plan tailored to your needs.

I’d love to know; where are you from? There are so many new faces, and it’s always fun to see where everyone is located! Most of you probably know, but I live in New York and have been calling this beautiful place home for 15 years now.
