this is the season to be thankful. But I’d say that keeping a posture of gratitude is healthy all year long. We’ve seen the studies and we know the benefits of gratitude —but how do we tap into it daily? It’s so easy to get lost in our to-do lists and anxieties. No matter my best intentions, a gratitude practice is just not at the top of my list. However, with the power of a little habit stacking, I do tend to open my journal on most mornings and I want to help you accomplish the same.

Here are 10 gratitude writing prompts to help you harness your thankfulness this year and the next.

1. Write about something positive that happened to you recently that made you feel more fortunate. 

2. Name five things that make you smile. Reflect on how these affect your mood. 

3. What makes you appreciate your job or career the most? Is it something you do or your work environment, or is it the people you work with and why?

4. How can you appreciate your five senses more by being mindful?

5. Imagine why your favorite song makes you happy, sad, etc., and describe this feeling in a few sentences.  

6. Write about someone you’re thankful for.

7. Write about a favorite memory from the past year.

8. Write about the last time you felt truly at peace.

9. What place makes you feel inner peace? How can you bring part of this into your daily life?

10. Write about five good things that happened to you last month.
